Every day, new companies around the world are born, and yet most of them can barely last five years. But, as business tales go, those that serve a deeper purpose and have a heart for the people often flourish for decades.
DMCI Homes is one such rare company. After 25 years of serving people, it is now one of the biggest and fastest-growing developers, and the first Quadruple A developer, in the country. It has also become the top choice for real estate buyers, who want nothing less than to feel at home in a community whose design is human-centered and always inspired.
To relive the challenges and triumphs that came along the way, DMCI Homes launches a short yet telling visual of the lives it has touched throughout its history. This presentation puts together stories of people who have been part of the DMCI Homes journey.
For the community
DMCI Homes President Alfredo Austria sets the tone for the video by first showing reverence to the company’s founder, Engineer David M. Consunji. It all started with a dream and a passion for the craft of building and construction, Austria remembers. The passion was so strong that it overcame the biggest hurdles of businesses: financial crisis, inflation, high interest rates, and even the pandemic.
This journey has been made possible by more than just individual efforts—it's the power of working together that truly stands out. That’s why interdependence is the perfect theme for DMCI Homes’ 25th anniversary. It reflects how the company and its communities thrive by supporting each other, sharing the same vision, and working as one cohesive team.
For single parent, Jai Gallardo, this spirit of community resonates deeply. Raising a son with autism, she emphasizes the importance of safety and care in their home. She says, “Para sa mga persons with disabilities, kailangan talaga may extra care, so very important ’yong security and safety ng anak ko.”
Karla Opinion, another resident, admits that living in the city can be difficult for families, but DMCI Homes has made it easy. “Living in a DMCI Homes property, ang saya na nakikita na namin siyang [our son] socializing with other kids. ’Tapos kami naman, surprisingly, sobrang daming…friendships na na-build na doon sa community.” She goes as far as saying that their neighbors have now become their family.
This sense of belongingness and openness extends far beyond the people who live and move around the community every day. In fact, the community has always been at the forefront, starting with design and construction. It’s a trait that is not shared by any other developer in the country.
“It’s always fulfilling din naman na makapag-provide tayo, as a developer, ’nong mga industry-firsts,” says Design Manager II, Architect Noel Salvanera, who has been with DMCI Homes for 15 years. “Then ’nong mga innovation na we’re working on, nakakapag-elevate din naman ng life ng ating mga residents and communities that we’re catering. Nakaka-proud siya as a designer.”
Of course, nothing could be built without the people who are tirelessly and fervently working, as we say, “behind the scenes,” way before any design could come to life.
Fernando Peña, who is a capataz in DMCI Homes’ Construction Team, “Proud na proud ako. Pinagmamalaki ko kahit sa mga anak ko, sa pamilya ko, ‘Kami ang gumawa niyan.’” Peña has more than his livelihood to thank for: his son, Engineer Fernando Peña was able to finish his degree through the David M. Consunji (DMC) scholarship given by DMCI Homes. Now, the father-and-son tandem works happily together in DMCI Homes.
Kevin Dilan, from DMCI Homes Property Development Corporation (DPMC) Community Development, Systems, and Customer Care Management, could not be more proud of what the company has accomplished, and is happy to witness its growth toward its vision.
“What I like about what I do is that I’m given the opportunity to become part of the lives of these people that we serve,” Dilan says. “From us as an organization being able to deliver and provide them their dream houses and their dream homes, to becoming part of the growing years of their kids, to becoming part of how we shape and provide experiences and memories, more importantly, to all our residents. At the end of the day, doon nanggagaling ’yong fulfillment. Doon nanggagaling ’yong saya.”
Engineer Placido Dumduma, meanwhile, has been a DMCI Homes partner since 2003, and he believes he has seen everything—and it’s all worth it. “As a business partner of DMCI Homes for more than 20 years, we’ve been through a lot,” he recounts. “Maraming pinagdaanan na journey…pero kapag tiningnan mo ’yong result, matutuwa ka. Kumbaga ’yong finished product niya, napakaganda…and I’m proud sa mga iyan.”
Home today and tomorrow
DMCI Homes has been a paragon of home-in-the-city for more than two decades now. But more than that, it has become the ideal company, revered by the next generation of builders and designers.
Mark Daniel Dela Torre is an engineering student at the University of the Philippines. DMCI Homes has been transformative in the way it has helped to improve infrastructure in the university. He says, “It [DMCI Homes’ donations] really helped a lot. As an extension also, there are students from other schools from across the Philippines who get to appreciate civil engineering even more.” He adds that he has been motivated to study harder: “The inspiration na kaya kong makatulong sa ibang tao through this education, which is made possible and improved by companies such as DMCI Homes.”
Twenty-five years feels like a lifetime for those who have been with DMCI Homes through its journey—and yet it is only the beginning. The video has different community members telling different stories, but they all share the same deep sentiment: DMCI Homes is life, love, and community.
“Maraming salamat,” DMCI Holdings, Inc. Chairman Isidro Consunji ends the video with a grateful heart. “Your trust has been the foundation of the success of DMCI Homes.”
DMCI Homes is the Philippines’ first Quadruple A real estate developer known for building quality resort-inspired communities in Mega Manila, Baguio, Boracay and Davao City. The company’s portfolio boasts of more than 70 properties since it was launched in 1999.
