In commemoration of the country’s “Elderly Filipino Week,” DMCI Homes’ La Verti Residences condominium community in Pasay City recently held an outreach project in the Anawim Home for the Abandoned Elderly in Rodriguez, Rizal for the benefit of its poor and abandoned residents.

Dubbed as “A Special Date with Lolo and Lola,” the outreach activity held last October 13, 2018 was the culmination of a month-long donation drive organized by La Verti Residences Community Development Council.

The donation drive was the condo community’s post-commemoration activity of the “Elderly Filipino Week” which is observed every first week of October to promote the wellbeing of senior members of the Philippine society.

La Verti Residences Property Manager Alex De Luna said the community-wide donation drive generated boxes of non-perishable food, cleaning and toiletry supplies which the Community Development Council turned over to the nursing facility.

"This is the first CSR (corporate social responsibility) activity organized by the La Verti Residences Community Development Council since the group was formed last year. The activity was suggested by one of our council members and we deemed it fit for the commemoration of the ‘Elderly Filipino Week’ in our country,” De Luna shared.

La Verti Residences homeowner Dinah Oraiz who has been serving the Anawim Lay Missions for 10 years said she wanted to involve her fellow residents in her advocacy of helping the poor and abandoned elderly, noting how routine visits improve the quality of life of the elderly occupants of the Anawim community.

Apart from donating boxes of food supplies and hygiene kits, DMCI Homes’ La Verti Residences Community Development Council members also prepared song and dance performances to warm the hearts of the elderly residents.

“I just would like to thank my fellow members of the La Verti Residences community. By joining the pilgrimage to Anawim, you are already part of the dreams of Bro. Bo ‘to turn the silver years of our lolos and lolas into gold,’” Ms. Oraiz said in reference to Catholic lay preacher Bo Sanchez who founded the nursing facility for poor and abandoned elderly.

Apart from turning over the boxes of donations from La Verti Residences, other members of the Community Development Council namely Ramil Presa, Gary Cabacungan, Alfred Palacio, and Marissa Khaing also prepared games as well as song and dance performances to cheer up the residents of the nursing facility.
