Sta. Cruz, Davao Del Sur lauds DMCI Homes' Mt. Apo outreach activity

The Municipality of Sta. Cruz in Davao Del Sur has commended DMCI Homes’ recent outreach activity at Sitio Colan in Sibulan, Mt. Apo, where volunteers planted trees and distributed food packs and school supplies to members of the Bagobo Tribe.

Julius Paner, Sta. Cruz Tourism Officer, cited DMCI Homes’ Kaakbay Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, particularly for reaching out to the Colan community who will be looking after the newly-planted trees.

“On behalf of the local government of Sta. Cruz, I’d like to commend this DMCI Homes initiative of planting trees and giving relief goods to the Colan community,” Paner shared.  

“This will boost the morale of the Bagobo tribe who are protecting the mountain,” he added.

All worth it

The volunteers, composed of DMCI Homes Davao employees and Verdon Parc condominium residents and staff, said joining the activity was worth it even though they had to trek three kilometers to reach the planting area.

Apart from planting trees, the volunteers distributed food packs and hygiene products to members of the Bagobo Tribe. They also gave away school supplies to the Colan Daycare Center pupils.

Julia Cometa, a unit owner at Verdon Parc, said she volunteered for the activity to give back to her community after working as a nurse in the United States for 20 years. 

“It’s very exhausting, but it’s a very good experience. Thank you so much for this kind of activity,” Cometa said.

Karen Plaza, a staff at Verdon Parc, said trekking a steep mountain for 20 minutes was all worth it, especially when she saw the happy faces of the Bagobo beneficiaries.

“Worth it ‘yong pagod. Worth it na nakita namin na nag-payoff ‘yong mga dala namin na tulong from DMCI Homes,” Plaza said.

DMCI Homes’ Kaakbay CSR Initiatives

The Mt. Apo outreach project is part of DMCI Homes’ “Kaakbay ng Pamayanan” and “Kaakbay ng Kalikasan” CSR initiatives that pertain to issues on social welfare and community development and projects about environmental protection and sustainable eco-development, respectively.

“Kaakbay ng Pamayanan” and “Kaakbay ng Kalikasan” are under the umbrella CSR program “Kaakbay,” which aims to foster good relations with the communities where DMCI Homes operates and bring forth social activities beneficial to the Filipino society.

Through its “Kaakbay” initiatives, DMCI Homes has been steadfast in helping alleviate the impact of the coronavirus health crisis through assistance to various beneficiaries.
