Giving back to the community comes in various forms.
For Priscilla “Precy” Ver, a fulltime housewife and mother of two, it’s through the Community Development Council of DMCI Homes’ The Birchwood project in Taguig City.
The Birchwood, a medium-rise residential condo located in the sprawling Acacia Estates township project of DMCI Homes, has been home for Precy, her husband William, and their daughters Andrea, 22, and Katie, 18, since August 2018.
“Na-invite ako to be part of the Council kasi isa kami sa unang residents ng tower namin,” said Ver, whose warm smile readily puts people at ease.
“Noong una, ayaw ko,” she admitted. “Pero naisip ko na it will be for the good of those who live here, so kung may maiko-contribute ako, why not? Sige, try ko, we’ll see kung may mako-contribute ako. Kaya um-oo ako.”
Being a stay-at-home wife and mom worked to Ver’s advantage as she has the time and the accessibility to fulfill her duties in the Council.
“Dahil nandito ako halos every day, whole day, nakikita ko din kung anong mga nangyayari within The Birchwood,” she pointed out. “Kung may problema, nakikita ko din, so maa-address kung mayroon man.”
She went on sharing that her responsibilities include the implementation of rules and regulations that will ultimately benefit all residents.
“Ina-adjust namin kung ano ang mas bagay,” she explained. “Kung may mga concerns, pinag-uusapan namin. Hinahanapan namin ng solution.”
Ver also disclosed some of her goals that she hopes the Council will be able to achieve.
“Parang ang vision ko is,” she said, beaming, “itong first year namin as council members ay ma-address namin ’yung initial concerns ng residents para happy lahat.”
So far, she’s delighted to announce that “in general, lahat naman sumusunod, maayos.”
As a resident herself, Ver has no complaints living in The Birchwood, noting that the security is “sobrang okay” and that “mahal na mahal ko ’yung PMO,” referring to the people at the Property Management Office.
Prior to settling in their current residence, the Ver family lived for years in a condo in Manila’s highly commercial district of Binondo, where Precy and William had set up a school-supplies business.
“More on convenience lang kasi that’s why we lived there sa school ng mga bata dati and sa business,” she explained. “Pero we’ve been wanting to move to a place talaga na mas peaceful, mas makaka-spend kami ng time together away from all the noise of the city. Kaya we decided to move here.”
Ver said she’d known all along that DMCI Homes “is a good developer” that builds projects “’yung maaliwalas siya, open, hindi nakakulong,” quite unlike their old place, where “all you see are doors of your neighbors.”
Thus from the very start, she and her family were set on living in a DMCI Homes property, and they chose the one located near the booming techno-industrial part of Taguig City.
“’Yung eldest daughter ko is in IT work,” she pointed out, “and medyo alam na namin na it will be somewhere sa area na ito, so ’yun nga, she’s just in BGC which is just twenty to thirty minutes away. So sobrang convenient for her.”
Ver recalled that she found out about The Birchwood from a friend, who works as a real estate agent, at a time when it was still in pre-selling stage.
“Actually, sold out na nga siya,” she said. “So pinag-pray lang namin na sana, magkaroon ng vacancy ulit or hindi kunin. Blessed kami na nakakuha kami ng available pa. Na-foresee na kasi namin by then, tapos na ng high school ’yung [youngest] anak namin, and we want to move to another city.”
She gleefully reported that since acquiring their two-bedroom unit, having it turned over to them, and living in it today, they never encountered any problem.
“Maayos naman lahat, so happy kami,” she said, adding that she especially loves going to the pool, the gym, and the clubhouse.
“Gustung-gusto namin, sobra. Resort-feel. ’Yun talaga ’yung nagustuhan namin to begin with. It would also be a nice place for me and my husband to retire eventually. Very peaceful siya, parang relaxing lang ’yung lugar. Whether you stay at home o lumabas ka, parehong relaxing siya. Mahangin, hindi polluted.”

They’re so happy that they bought a new unit in another DMCI Homes project, Ivory Wood, which is likewise located within Acacia Estates, for investment purposes.
They also encourage their relatives and friends to join them in the community, while advising homebuyers in general to always go to a reputable developer that’s “tested na, alam mo na hindi ka pababayaan.”
